Meet Mark Turpin

TURPIN for TRUSTEE

Mark Turpin grew up in a large family of nine, learning from an early age that pitching in and doing your share was the right thing to do. His dad was a hard-working mechanic, and his mom was a social worker.  With his family he lived for a short while in Waterford, right on Saratoga Avenue, before moving to Cohoes where he spent the rest of his childhood.

As an adult, he lived in nearby Speigletown for 25 years, where he began to discover the advantages that Waterford had to offer.  So, it was an easy move for Mark to continue his enjoying small town community life after 2014, when he and his wife, Barb, purchased three small parcels in the Village.

That purchase began a three-year labor of love as he and Barb used their construction and design skills to build their own custom home near the riverfront.  The result was a beautiful home they now enjoy, often leading Mark to share with friends that “We have a vested interest in the community of Waterford and enjoy the village life.”.

Mark is a proud stepfather of two and a grandfather of four, all of whom enjoy the company of “Pa” whenever they get the chance.  He is an avid outdoorsman, and accomplished woodworker, among other things crafting canoes, paddles, custom doors, cabinetry, furniture, and, of course, their new home.  Mark enjoys hiking, fishing, hunting, camping, and paddling in Upstate New York, along with the occasional vacation to sunny Florida.

Mark’s school-interests led him to a career in drafting, design, and eventually civil engineering.  His successful 25-plus years with the NYS Department of Transportation provided him the opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience that will aid the Village as a trustee.

Mark’s experience as a member of the Village Zoning Board of Appeals has also enhanced his knowledge and relevant skills that relate to service as a Village Trustee.  Mark’s service on the board reflects his desire to promote appropriate, safe, and organized development within the Village.  This is one of his highest priorities in maintaining and improving the quality of life in Waterford Village.

Mark stays busy in other areas of Village life.  He volunteers at the Waterford Museum as a member of the Museum’s Collection Committee and a Meals on Wheels volunteer.  He serves in an active role in improving the gardens at the Museum, at the Waterford Library, and at a village park.  His neighbors and friends in Waterford know he is always ready and willing to lend a cheerful hand with remodeling projects, shoveling snow, sharing his expertise as a woodworker and builder, or whatever comes up.

Mark will be a responsive and accountable Village trustee. The Board of Trustees needs new leadership and Mark can fulfill that need.

Mark Turpin will be your DEMOCRATIC Voice on the Village Board and a RESPONSIBLE Choice at the Polls.

It has been too many years with only one party on the ballot!

As Mark says, “No one should run unopposed!”

Mark asks for your VOTE on DEMOCRATIC Row A at the Village Board election on Tuesday, March 15th
